| Tourism in the Baltic Sea Region The Baltic Sea region is a rapidly growing tourism destination in Northern Europe. Nearly 80 million people live in the region and an increasing number of visitors are discovering the wealth of natural and cultural diversity that is available around the Baltic Sea. Today, tourism is an attractive opportunity as a complement to the economies of the transitional countries of the former East European bloc, bordering the Baltic Sea. This portal gives the opportunity to discover the wealth of the cultural heritage in the Baltic Sea Region. The Balder Project The Balder project is financed through the Interreg IIc programme in the Baltic Sea Region and managed by Vellinge Municipality in Sweden as the Lead Partner. The aim of the project is to find sustainable solutions for managing tourism destinations of cultural value. The project involves the five theme Amber, Vikings, Hanse, Cultural Ports and Industrial Heritage which are subprojects managed by organisations from Denmark, Finland and Sweden.
